In staging a home with Feng Shui, one of the most important areas is the 'Helpful People' corner. This corner represents the ability of the homeowner to allow the Realtor, Mortgagor, Inspector, Appraiser, etc - help the Buyer be able to easily purchase the home. It is important that this area of the house be clutter free, and it is a GREAT area to set specific intentions of selling the house quickly!

To find it, walk in the front door, and go the far right hand corner of the home - on the same side as the front door. It may be your garage - that is OK - it still counts! I like to have clients set affirmations in this area, and we follow up with a sacred mantra or prayer to ensure success.

I was a banker - a Vice Priesident with Chase Manhattan Bank for 13 years. During that time, I was actually a Commercial Real Estate Appraiser for the bank - we estimated value for construction loans. For people like Donald Trump, among many. While I considered myself a banker at the time, the other 1/2 of my life, I considered myself a Yogi. Never did I realize how the two would meet until I met Feng Shui. Feng Shui combined both of these loves of mine into one. Reading the energy, feeling harmony, in real estate! I've been a Feng Shui consultant for 17 years now, and, from early on, I began helping people to get their homes ready to sell, quickly - with Feng Shui. It was only recently that I realized what I was doing was helping them stage their homes - thus, the birth of Staging with Feng Shui.
While certainly staging helps immensely with selling a home (who wants to buy a home with no style, clutter all over, and horrible colors on the walls?)....I have found that the addition of Feng Shui is like turning the magic key. Many times a complete re-design doesn't even occur - but the energy work is.

Seeing the Light

Our 'Higher Power' reaches out for us and often we don't 'see'. A couple months ago, I was 'disappointed' that my condo association provided 'light' at the dark side of my condo. This morning, while reading about the Enneagram, in Maurice Nicolle's V. 1 Commentaries on Gurdjieff & Oespensky...he commented that our higher self will reach a point where 'the light' comes on, and it is up to us to recognize this opening. He cross references this to the Bible, in Genesis, where 'God' said 'let there be light.' Most, says Nicoll, will not recognize it.

Soon after the light behind my condo came on, and, my condo President insisted that it had been there before (and I didn't see it), I watched the 2 trees that I love outside my screened porch, lose all their leaves and, I thought, they were 'dying'. A few weeks later, I noticed little buds on them, and yet, still 'worried' about the tree - as I live in FL and haven't watched trees losing their leaves and regenerating so quickly. So, I didn't trust this death and re-birth process. A week later, I was meditating on the porch one morning. There had been a heavy thunder and rain shower the night before. When I opened my eyes, I witnessed 'a miracle' - both trees were in full bloom, as strong and beautiful as ever.

It was at this point I realized how life can take us into darkness, where one might feel there is no escape. Yet...it is not the nature of nature to leave us in the darkness. We are always being shown 'the light' - we just have to slow down and recognize it. Our higher power - whatever we call it and recorded in many esoteric books for centuries, always is waiting, hopeful, that we will 'see the light'.

3- years on the market - a little Feng Shui - and SOLD

I'm very excited as a past client from long ago called me a few months ago for help in selling her condo on the beach in South Florida. She had it listed for 3+ years - and nothing happened!!!! The home was beautiful, really, not much wrong from a staging point of view. However...several things were 'out of balance' from a Feng Shui point of view! We implemented the shifts, placed some specific objects that I use to sell homes quickly (based on my training from Chinese masters), set intentions for a rapid sale - with furnishings - and I then advised her to let go of any attachment to her home (now called 'house').

We had numerous contacts, I kept advising her to stay calm, centered, trusting and know that the condo would sell soon. Suddenly, she received an offer, quickly negotiated to contract, and within 3 months of our consultation, the condo was closed. It happened so fast that she and her husband are now living in rented temporary space until the renovation of their new, downsized condo (which I am helping them with) is complete. They did lose almost all of their initial investment, but, walked away with $50,000 in their pocket after all expenses - and this was on an original purchase of almost $2 million at the height of the market. They are ecstatic, as their carrying costs were overwhelming, the market has been horrible for this price range, and all along, I encouraged them to focus on selling without losing any further money.

Feng Shui works. It works even better with a home that is staged. Most important is the Seller's attitude. What they think, will materialize. Now on to meet with other clients in Palm Beach County who just put their home on the market this week and already have an offer!

One Happy Feng Shui Client

Feng Shui is all about proper placement to direct energy to it's highest and best use. Many times I am approached in public places by people asking me if they should put a fountain here, or add some wind chimes there. I often feel like the doctor who is at an event and someone comes up to him/her asking how to heal their foot! As you might guess, it is not possible for me to answer your questions in the moment, without focusing on you and your surroundings and/or reviewing pictures/floor plans, or, ideally, physically being at your space to see what is going on in your home or office.

With that said....it is always a great idea to schedule a follow up appointment with me to verify that what you have actually placed in your environment, is correctly done. It's only human nature, that we hear one thing, when something slightly different was actually meant.

Here is an example of a happy client, whose store I just happened to drive by one afternoon. I immediately saw that they had followed through with my Feng Shui suggestions for a 'cure'. The physical objects were there, but....they were in the wrong place! This video will show you that sometimes just a slight movement will create an enormous difference!

From Feng Shui to Celadon Road - Live from Sterling Spin

What a fun time it was interviewing with Liz Sterling on Sterling Spin this week! The show was about the undercurrent present in today's world, all the shifting that people are doing from the OLD to the NEW. I found myself in that situation over the past few years and Liz invited me on to her show to talk a little about it. Basically, I found that moving back to my hometown in PA was not supporting me in growing my Feng Shui business there - that I had for over 10 years - and loved! Despite meaning I had to leave my aging parents, I made the decision to move back to South Florida, where business has always been great for me. Of course....this was all in the midst of the economic free fall in the U.S. - and while it was better than PA, the summertime in Florida can be like a ghost town!

I was already working on taking more seminars online (almost done! webinars to start by year end 2010!) but wondered what else I might be able to do that would be in alignment with my personal life mission. Watch this video and see how Celadon Road entered into my life!

Dirty Electricity & Other Everyday Life Radiation Issues

A few years ago I learned about a new term (to me) in electric magnetic radiation. The term: Dirty Electricity. I learned that people were having all sorts of reactions to these fields that were beyond what we studied as Building Biologists. The speaker that presented this information was Dr. Magda Havas. I purchased a full house set of filters and after a few weeks, I wasn't sure if I was experiencing anything positive from them. I called the manufacturer and in conversation, the only thing I could quantify in my life was that I felt much clearer, in fact, was making major, positive changes due to the clarity I seemed to have found. He laughed, and told me that due to what he calls 'brain fog' from any type of lighting (I did not have the CFL's which is apparently the highest), that the FIRST thing many customers notice is: Clarity!

Before Mitigation

Since then, I help people measure and test to see if this could be beneficial to them. I've had clients who had headaches when walking into the room they were 'saving energy' with CFL's feel dramatically better and headaches disappear once we resolve the situation. This, along with the measurement and mitigation of Alternating Current Magnetic and Electric fields as well as impacts from Cell Phone radiation and WI-FI....has resulted in happier, healthier clients.

Labor Day Musings

On this U.S. holiday of Labor Day, thoughts are coming to me of what my ancestors did to come to America to work. My maternal side of the family has a longer history in the US than my paternal side. The tracings that I have are that my Great Great Grandparents travelled across the country from New York to Wisconsin, in a covered wagon. Somewhere I have a photo of that - I'll have to post it when I unpack that box! They built a beautiful log home, and brought with them many fineries in that wagon. Yet they toiled hard to make their life work. Just thinking of the thrill of leaving and going out into the world with no true idea of where one would land is exciting to me. I think I inherited those genes!

My Great Grandfather, maternal side, was a builder. Hmmm...more inherited genes? My Mother has records of who owed him what during the Depression, and she reminds me that he was kind and not demanding of people for payments. Apparently my Great Grandmother was also a self starter, and she was involved in direct sales - imagine! This, too, must be in my blood with my love of Celadon Road, the organic, sustainable, fair trade products that I bring to the world.

My maternal Grandfather was an electrician early on in his career, then became a minister in midlife. It is interesting that my own Father was also an electrical engineer, and, that through Building (Bau) Biology, my focus for many years has been on the electro-magnetic radiation. Whew...this is getting eerie - can it possibly be just coincidence that all this background has merged into what I pursue today in my own work?

Paternally, my Grandparents were the first of their family to come to the U.S.. Sent here, without their family, by their parents, at a young age. I believe my Grandmother was barely a teenager when they married and she started having children (while working!). Her life was more challenging than my other set of Grandparents, having 8 children (losing 1 at a young age), working, cooking, and a husband who also worked. They both worked in factories, and toiled long and hard. I can hardly imagine what thoughts they had of work. I think what kept them going was family. Work was just a means to an end.

Today we live in a country where people still give up much to come to and live the American Dream. Many Americans are wondering just what happened to their own dream. I always believe that things happen for a reason. It seems to me that what has happened economically in our country created a realignment of values. The happiest people that I know are those that appreciate everything that comes to them in their lives. Including their jobs. Which brings me back to today. Today let's honor all who work, and want to work. Be thankful for what you have and help out your fellow American when you can. Happy Labor Day!

There is a huge shift in the air. I have felt it in my own life. A move to a new home – that is always a major shift. But even more, I have been drawn to focus more on children – to bring information to their parents, their grandparents – information that can help them help their children have healthy, productive lives.

In the past 15 years I have seen a lot of people affected by the environment they were living in. The things that have stayed with me the most were those homes where the parents did not realize that where they placed their children’s bedrooms, and what they placed in and outside of it, had enormous potential for health impacts on their child. I’ve seen children with all sorts of illnesses, many which we concluded were a direct result of the environment.

It could have been elevated electric fields; it may have been the water quality. It possibly was due to the paint and carpeting in the child’s room – or perhaps it was the materials that their toys were made out of. It is difficult to pinpoint the cause after the result is in place – and this led me to realize that I need to do whatever I can to educate before the results go in the wrong direction.

So now I am on an exciting new journey. I’ve embarked upon a journey to find those families that want a healthy life for their family, especially their children. There are many directions that I can go in to reach people and this – this requires goal setting and mapping out the path.

This leads me back to the poem that started out this blog, at the top of the page. My Grandfather, Chauncey J. Pobanz, a man who became a Methodist minister in mid life, kept a journal that I am fortunate to have in my possession. This particular poem reminds me that all of my goals are being directed by my soul. And that, my friends, is glorious.

Carol Cannon's 9 Bau (Building) Biology Tips for a Healthy Home (& Planet!) (edit/delete)

Happy Earth Day! Today is the day that we celebrate Mother Earth. However, I hope that you celebrate and enjoy her every day! As a Bau (Building) Biologist, I look at how buildings affect humans, and, the planet. Following are some of my favorite tips to create a healthy living environment. Enjoy!

1. Unplug any unnecessary electrical items in your bedroom so you are not sleeping in a "sea" of electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Most importantly, keep items such as alarm clocks, tape players, radios at a "safe" distance from your head.

2. Use 100% natural linens for your bed, to avoid allergies. Avoid polyester!

3. Attach a grounded glare guard to an older computer to reduce EMFs and make working much easier on your health. Newer computers have built in lower EMFs.

4. Keep electric calculators, pencil sharpeners and other electronic equipment unplugged until you need to use them. These items emit high EMFs that can negatively impact your health.

5. If you have a sewing machine, keep it unplugged when not in use, as it emits high EMFs.

6. Look for potentially dangerous EMF sources that might be hidden in your bedroom. Avoid placing your bed against a wall that might have one of the following on the other side of the wall: main power source to the building, circuit breaker box, stove, refrigerator, pool pump.

7. When building a new home or building out your new business space, incorporate healthy concepts. Consider using non-toxic glue for carpeting; non-toxic paint for the walls; tile, cork, bamboo or natural carpeting for flooring, and natural fabrics for furniture. These will help prevent out-gassing and will make your environment a healthier and more productive place to be in.

8. Consider using full spectrum lighting in place of fluorescent tubes, particularly in your workspace. This creates the closest lighting to daylight, and relieves much stress in the body.

9. Test your drinking water regularly, even if you have a filter. Consider installing a reverse osmosis or distilled water unit for removal of most "TDS" (total dissolved solids).

Ho'oponopono

Creating a Home to Nest In: Health, Harmony & Success with Bau-Biologie®

Feng Shui Business Success Tip

Feng Shui principals embody a myriad of ideas and processes that help people in all areas of life. One favorite of mine is to create an energetic plan to talk with your existing clients. The number 9 embodies the most 'yang' (movement!) energy of all the single digit numbers. Make it a habit to incorporate that number into the frequency of your calls - perhaps make 1 call a day over the next nine days to people you have not spoken to in at least 6 months. Or, try calling 9 people a day for the next 9 days. Make this even more powerful by setting up a 27 day plan - 1 or 9 people each day over that time period. To make this most effective - do NOT ask them for anything and do NOT try to sell them something. Your main focus is to simply check in, see how they are doing, and renew your contact. You will be amazed at what the Universe will provide as a result!

A Good Day - Lowering Electro Magnetic Fields in a Home

Today was a good day. I was able to determine that the elevated AC Electric Fields in a lovely family's home will be able to be reduced substantially. So important, particularly in a family with young children. Elevated electric fields open the door to lowering the body's defenses to disease over time. It's a good day when that can be mitigated.
I noticed the elevation for the first time when my repeat client bought a new home. They inviited me to review their home for ideas to help them with the design process, from a Feng Shui point of view. It had been 6 months since their purchase, and they felt it was time for me to come back for a review. In that interim, they painted the home with non-toxic paint, updated light and fan fixtures, purchase some new furniture, and set about to 'living' in the home.

Their daughter was in the room that initially had the most concern for me. I did a preliminarly test and found elevated fields, suspecting that it was the exterior transformer near the front of the home. Today, I discovered that the AC Magnetic fields (the ones I sampled) were actually in good condition. However, the AC Electric fields, which we call 'body voltage' in the field of Bau-biology, were quite elevated. Through proper shielding, and shut off of a few circuit breakers at night time, they will lower the fields by 90% of the current levels.

The symptoms that the daughter was exhibiting (and their younger son) were that they had not slept through the night since moving in to the house, thus, they were all sleep deprived. When electric fields are elevated, they impact the pineal gland, which slows the production of melatonin - which is needed for deep, restful sleep. No sleep = irritable children = stressed family. We are all excited tonight as until their shielding cloths arrive, they are going to experiment with turning off a few specific circuit breakers each night before going to sleep. I expect that when I talk to them again in about 1 week, that I will find they will be a lot more rested.

Creativity

I used to be an early riser, filled with creative ideas the moment I got out of bed. These days, the end of the day seems to be the opening to my creative juices. Living on the intracoastal in South Florida is a treat - and I enjoy rising slowly, watching the sun sneak up to the sky, with Hercules and Zeus (my 2 cats) and my cup of organic coffee. Mornings have turned into times for me to fill my soul, rather than pour it out into the world. Daily, I start out with sacred music, a great view, and slowly I begin to fill up with life.

That said, by the end of the afternoon, I find that the sun setting calls me outside for a walk that is the formal end to my productive work day. Scenes like the one at left leave me speechless some evenings - and it is a great way for me to empty my mind from all that went on during the day. Somehow, it seems that in this emptying, I am finding my most creative thoughts emerge at the same time. Once that starts flowing, it feels so good that when I return, I'll either start writing, or free drawing, or even creative cooking. This is a whole new side of me that seems to have turned inside out - a person that I am living with that seems to be recreating life for me!

What are you doing to allow your creative juices to express themselves? What have I done that has caused this shift? One important thing I have done is move a lot of furniture around in my condo at the start of the New Chinese Year. Old habits don't leave easily - moving furniture around is a habit that I've had since I was a little girl! Things just 'feel' differently in new locations - and when you couple that with Feng Shui and all that I know about it - it is a magical experience. These days when I am working at my desk, it is in a more open space where I am able to open the doors to the patio so Herc & Zeus can enjoy the fresh air - and we all get to enjoy the water view as we work. There is a lot of work ahead that requires me to be creative - and the basic, bottom line for me is feeling good in my surroundings. Good Feng Shui always comes through.

Buildings and interiors have always intrigued me. When I first went to work in real estate, I had to make a choice between two job offers. Knowing nothing about what I know of Feng Shui today, I look back and see that intuitively, I already had a sense of its principles. With two offers, and one with a higher commission, it was not a difficult choice. I chose the company whose “surroundings” felt better to me – the lower-commission company. Due to its environment, my long-term income rose higher than it would have been in the other, less pleasant, atmosphere.

Today’s astute building and business owners realize that environment plays a huge part in a buyer’s or employee’s emotions. Employees are happier in harmonious surroundings. Buyers are more eager to buy into the ‘healthy, yet harmonious' image. Our world is filled with ongoing stress from family life to world events. Any space that creates a slight feeling of relaxation is a welcome relief.

Enter Feng Shui (sounds like: Fun Play or Fung Shway): the Chinese art of placement that represents the words “Wind-Water.” This art, which also has a mathematical basis, has been used for over 4,000 years in design of buildings, cities and even burial grounds in China. Feng Shui in its origins was harbored by Chinese Emperors for use in palace and burial design, and even in the planning of war. The bottom line is that people are influenced by the cyclical patterns of nature. Feng Shui capitalizes on this and brings this sense of nature and its inherent symetry, back into buildings.

6 Simple Methods to Bring Balance in Today’s World

Today’s world seems to be filled with anxiety producing events for many people. World events, local and national events, crisis here and crisis there all vie for your attention daily. It trickles down to your own world, people you know, family, and sometimes yourself. Admittedly, it is a challenge to stay balanced, yet, if you don’t, it will make life difficult.

How can you take steps to find this balance, this peace you probably are seeking while involved in the cyclone of daily living? Stay calm, you can find a way. Here are 6 ideas that can help you begin experiencing calmer times.

1. Make sure you continue to breathe. You might think, “well, of course I breathe, it is automatic’. I am referring to conscious breathing. This is helpful in the moment of anxiety, fear, calamity, and daily living, where you simply stop, and focus on your breath. A simple technique is to stop, and consciously take three deep, slow breaths. You might even close your eyes while doing this. And you might feel encouraged to take many more. This simple exercise can help to quiet your mind, giving you a moment to break away from all that is distressing to you.

2. Get outside in nature. A short walk, in the morning, at lunch time, or after dinner will help you to detach from ‘the world’, and experience all that nature provides for you. Breathing fresh air brings wonderful new oxygen to your lungs. It also can bring clarity to your mind. Many of my best ideas arrive when I am out walking. If you want company, ask a friend or family member to join you. Getting outside together, releasing your stresses can be a nice support system for you, too.

3. Set time to meditate or pray, daily. You might think that you have to sit cross legged, or kneel by your bed for these activities. Actually, you can bring this into your life in many ways. Walking can be a meditation or time for you to commune with the God, Goddess, and/or Higher Power of your choice. Drawing is one form of meditation that I enjoy. For some, cooking takes them to that meditative state. You might even enjoy a drive through the mountains, the countryside, or along the beach. What makes you feel calm and joy filled? This could be your own unique form of meditation.

4. Reduce or eliminate outside distractions. Many years ago I stopped reading newspapers. I found it difficult yet unpleasant to stop watching news on TV, so 1 year ago I removed TV from my home. Avoid going to places where you don’t feel comfortable just because someone wants you to go. Find places to go to that make you feel good. Take a friend’s child or your niece or nephew out for an afternoon of fun at the children’s museum. You’ll have a new and fun experience, and you will be providing some balance for their parents.

5. Laugh. Yes – laughter will bring balance and happiness to your life. Call someone that always stirs a laugh in you. Take a class on happiness. Go to a funny movie. People watch wherever you are. And laugh instead of criticizing yourself when you do something that didn’t quite work out. Smile and people will smile back at you.

6. Create a place where you can relax within your own home. Feng Shui can help you find the perfect spot. There is ALWAYS a place, as unusual as it may seem. I have clients who came up with their own ideas, amongst them: the bathroom tub with soft music, candles, and a do not disturb sign on the door; a large closet that became a meditation room; a tree house, where you can literally get away from the house and many more ideas. Set up your space with balanced, Feng Shui order and it can help you feel calmer immediately.

Take your pick from these six ideas, and consider practicing one every day for the next week. Then choose another for the following week and another for the following, etc. In 6 weeks time, you will find that you have created a calm space for yourself that you know you can go to when need be. This knowing will make it easier to get through your day. Congratulations, you are on your way to a balanced life!

Clutter in my home

I have to write about clutter...even though I have written about this before and many other articles by other Feng Shui consultants feature 'clutter'. I do not like clutter. Plain and simple. Especially in my life. Or should I refine to: my home. So here I sit with clutter all around. I am fortunate to actually have a new neighbor that wants to help me unpack. But tonight I had to decline. Until I find the proper home for all that we unpacked last night - I can't open another box! This probably has a lot to do with my Metal personality. Feng Shui, you see, is based upon 5 different elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. Metal is the element that if you have this as your primary element (more about how you figure this out another time!) then....you don't like clutter! We 'Metal People' like things put away, nice and neat, organized, simple and easy to find.

So I will organize this first batch, then head for the rest of the boxes. Which contain too much. Why did I bring so many sweaters and coats? I moved to Florida! I can probably keep 3 or 4 sweaters, 2 or 3 pants & skirts, a jacket, a couple coats for different seasons when I MIGHT go north in bitter weather (unlikely...) and release the rest of these winter things to the folks that DO need them.

Release. Emptying. Clearing. Letting go of more makes me happier with the LESS that remains. And leaves room for all that wants to enter my life. I like that. And I like the idea that there will be room for new things as they arrive. My favorite mantra: Less is More. Less IS More. Wishing you less so you can have more.

Packing

Moving is, of course, a big thing. Packing with intention, is important. If something was not serving me well (or I didn't even look at it in the 3.5+ years it was in this home), then it doesn't seem like it should come along. So, discretion becomes important. I read an article recently about someone who moved and created a Zen living room. That has appeal to me, but my sister wonders who would get me up off the floor. She forgets that I meditate, typically sitting on my meditation cushion on the floor. I've wondered about guests that come to visit. Some, as they are aging, would barely be able to get down, let alone up.

So I will ponder the Zen living room. At minimum (Zen-ish) it will have to be simple. 12 years ago I visited my yoga teacher in her Zen-like Georgetown condo. It has been embellished in my mind ever since. Simple. Unadorned. Calm, and peaceful. That is the state that I prefer to be in these days. Less, IS more.

Yesterday I drove my almost 84 year old Mother 1.3 hours to Harrisburg. She had an appointment for thermographic imaging (in my opinion, a healthier, radiation free version of a mammogram). Before we opened the door to Gault Wellness Center, Mom stopped to look at the pretty red flowers outside the door. My Feng Shui by Surprise alert system started to ring some bells. When we stepped inside, I could 'feel' the positive energy. Of course, I commented, and Jennifer Gault, M.T. was right there to admit they tried to do their best to make their center comfortable for their patients. I gave her a positive report based on what I saw and felt. A healing yellow with nurturing blue palette graced the walls. The seating was comfy and easy to access. The registration was immediately to the left upon entering, where patients could be interacted with as they came and went; and foremost were the positive outlooks of both Jennifer and her husband, Dr. Thomas Gault, D.C..

All of this was complemented by healthy products in their properly placed display case. Foremost in my vision was an earthfx™ grounding Bed Pad which set off my Bau-biologie alert system. Dr. T and Jennifer then told me about Lance Armstrong's personal doctor who sends an earthfx™ Travel Recovery Bag along with Lance to help ground him to earth energies and allow him to recover as he travels. There were many more items but unfortunately my Mom's appointment was so efficient and I had my own appointments to get back to - that I didn't get to peruse it all.
